But it would be a shame if you didn’t take this opportunity to enjoy one of the most scenic areas in the United States. If you saw “Last of the Mohicans” or “Dirty Dancing” you got a glimpse of the natural beauty of our surroundings (Chimney Rock vicinity and Lake Lure respectively. Some of the less attractive scenes of “The Fugitive” and “Deliverance” were filmed in and around Sylva.)
Hiking, Camping, Kayaking, Bicycling... There are so many trails to choose from, and some can be quite strenuous but others are fairly easy. (We will also give you instructions on what to do if you encounter a bear.) Bring a day pack and some really sturdy hiking shoes if you plan on hiking any of the hundreds of close by trails.
A variety of golf courses are nearby and open to the public. North Carolina is renowned for its golf (Arnie Palmer and a few other pros played at one of the many colleges in the state). The moutain courses are scenic, manicured and beautiful but they are challenging: Bring plenty of golf balls!
